DeChambeau tweets apology for USGA remarks

Days after claiming the USGA was "stunting the growth of the game" with their stance on his unique putting approach, Bryson DeChambeau tweeted a lengthy apology and vowed to focus on improving his performance.DeChambeau had experimented with a face-on, side-saddled putting approach earlier this year but was informed at last month's CareerBuilder Challenge that one of the putters he submitted for USGA approval had been deemed non-conforming. He ultimately switched back to a conventional stance last week. But his struggles on the greens continued, as DeChambeau withdrew after 28 holes at Riviera. After missing another cut at the Honda Classic, he pinned blame on the USGA in comments to Golf Digest."The USGA essentially doesn't like me doing it," he said. "I'm pretty much done with it. They're not a good organization, and you can quote me on that."On Sunday morning, DeChambeau took to Twitter to pen an apology to the USGA, insisting that "my emotions got the better of me" when he made his original comments:DeChambeau, 23, is one of five players to win both the U.S. Amateur and NCAA individual title in the same year. He has made only three cuts in 10 starts this season, with his best result a T-36 finish at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He ranks 194th on Tour in strokes gained-putting.

The struggling Bryson DeChambeau had some harsh words for the USGA after his Friday round at the Honda Classic. It wasn't long before he backed off the remarks though. Golf Digest reports that DeChambeau said the following about a chat he had with the USGA regarding his side-saddle putting: "It [was] a long conversation.

I like the fact that he plays different, tries new things, and gets pissed when some guy in a room somewhere decides that his new idea is illegal. I think it is refreshing when the guy who gives out green jacket asked Dechambeau how it felt to be the high score amateur and Dechambeau response was he can't wait till he goes pro to get paid.
