The executive board of the International Olympic Committee officially announced that Paris will host the 2024 Summer Games and Los Angeles will get the 28 Olympics. The two cities, which were considered the leading bids to host the 24 Games, had already agreed to alternate as hosts and the executive board, which is meeting this week in Lima, Peru, approved the lineup. In June, the executive board recommended golf, as well as 27 other sports, remain in the Olympics for the 24 Games following golfs return to the Olympics for the first time in over 100 years in 2016 in Rio. Golf was originally approved as an Olympic sport for 16 and 20, when the Games will be held in Tokyo. That recommendation is expected to be ratified this week in Peru.
Hoggard: Future Olympic venues provide welcome stability
The last time two Olympic hosts were determined at once was in 1921, when the 1924 Paris and 28 Amsterdam Games were awarded, according to Olympstats.com. Los Angeles and Paris will join London as the only cities to host the Olympics three times. The 28 Games will mark the first time a U.S. city will host the Games since 2002 (Salt Lake City, Utah for the Winter Olympics), and the first Summer Games since 1996 (Atlanta, Ga.). Paris will host for the first time since 1924.The golf venue for the 24 Games will be Le Golf National, the venue for next years Ryder Cup, and if golf is approved for the 28 Games in Los Angeles, which could happen this week, Riviera Country Club, the annual site of the PGA Tours Genesis Open, will host.
