Rahm, Na officially join European Tour

Jon Rahm and Kevin Na have both officially joined the European Tour as affiliate members, a decision that paves the way for Rahm to potentially earn a spot on the 2018 European Ryder Cup team.Rahm entered this week ranked No. 38 in the world, buoyed by his win earlier this year at the Farmers Insurance Open, while Na is currently ranked No. 44. Assuming they remain inside the OWGR top 50, both will be eligible for the first five events of the newly-launched Rolex Series that begins with the BMW PGA Championship in May.Both men will now earn Race to Dubai points, beginning with this week's WGC-Mexico Championship, and must play at least four European Tour events outside of the majors and WGC events to maintain their membership.Na played briefly on the European Tour in 2003, but the key takeaway from the announcement is that Rahm's path to Paris is now cleared. While he attended Arizona State en route to becoming the top-ranked amateur in the world, Rahm was born in Spain and is expected to factor for one of 12 spots on Thomas Bjorn's roster next fall."I have always wanted to play the Ryder Cup and I have always wanted to be a member of the European Tour," Rahm said. "I have obviously taken a different approach to tour life than a lot of other Europeans who went to college in the States, but I thought this was my best shot. I'm surprised I have been able to take this opportunity so early, but it's great to be able to join."
