NFL commentator and former quarterback Tony Romo will begin his pursuit of a Web.com Tour card Wednesday.Romo, 38, is entered in the Lantana, Texas, pre-qualifier for Web.com Tour Q-School. He is listed as an amateur with a plus-0.4 handicap, but he can turn pro prior to the opening round of any stage.Romo has gained plenty of tournament experience over the past few years. Earlier this year, he shot 77-82 while playing on a sponsor exemption at the PGA Tours Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. A few months later, he shot 77 in a U.S. Open local qualifier. According to the Web.com Tour, Romo, who now works as a CBS analyst for the NFL, is the first former athlete to try and gain Web.com status since Mardy Fish, a former tennis pro, attempted the feat in 2014.Approximately 228 qualifying positions are available at pre-qualifying sites around the country. The Lantana field size is 68 players, and the number of available spots will soon be determined.
