Stacy, Post enjoying time as LPGA royalty this week

PHOENIX They are the LPGA pioneers being honored this week. That makes Hollis Stacy and Sandra Post royalty at the Bank of Hope Founders CupTheyve been seated in chairs that look a bit like thrones in a royal box aside the 18th green at Wildfire Golf Club. LPGA founders Marilynn Smith, Shirley Spork and Marlene Hagge Vossler have been there this week, too.Theyll be there again Sunday, honored to have every player come greet them after finishing up the final round. Its a wonderful tradition LPGA commissioner Mike Whan established when he created this event in 2011.Its been a lot of fun, said Stacy, an 18-time LPGA winner with four major championships. The players have been very respectful in thanking Sandra Post and myself for what we did, for helping the LPGA.Stacy, 63, is a World Golf Hall of Famer. She won the U.S. Womens Open in 1977, 78 and 84. She won the du Maurier Classic as a major in 83.While Stacy has come to know a lot of todays players, she is grateful young players she did not know before this week are learning about her and Post.I think they appreciate us coming out, Stacy said. Its nice to be able to share some stories with them.Stacy said that its also nice to be able to share some of the hard lessons she learned along the way.Because I did it all, Stacy joked. I can tell them a lot of what not to do.Post, 68, is a pioneer among international players. She was the first Canadian to play the LPGA. She won eight tour titles, including the 68 LPGA Championship. Its a privilege and honor to be here, Post said. When I look at all the countries represented now, Israel and Iceland and so many others, the LPGA really is a world stage. The torch was passed to us, and we passed it on, and its in really good hands today.
